‘Doctor Strange’ Rachel McAdams, Benedict Cumberbatch Always Together? ‘It’s All Good’, Says Actress
Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange” is one of the most highly anticipated Superhero movies of this year, no less due to Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch being the lead. Details also emerged about co-star Rachel McAdams’ role in the movie.
The “Spotlight” actress revealed in an interview with News.com.au that she and Benedict Cumberbatch have a lot of scenes together but did not reveal much about her character.
“I can’t tell you anything about it. I’m afraid someone from Marvel will jump out of a closet, but all I can say is that I’m playing a doctor, plus most of my scenes are with Benedict,” she said. “It’s all good,” she added.
On the other hand, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked more about McAdams’ character to Entertainment Weekly. “Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into the role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity.”
The comics tell us about Doctor Strange’s transformation from a surgeon to a sorcerer. McAdams’ character, according to Feige, then helps him to connect to a more grounded reality.
“Doctor Strange” Executive Producer Stephen Broussard echoes Feige’s comments. He says McAdams’ character is a sort of contemporary to Cumberbatch’s character “in the modern-day New York world, before and after he goes on this crazy journey.” “She’s kind of this audience point of view,” he explains.
Hence, McAdams’ character will be the eyes through which the audience will explore the world of Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange and his alias Doctor Strange, the protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.
It is likely that McAdams’ character will also be a love interest for Doctor Strange. “I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say what the interest is. But if I hit on her more than the Ancient One, put it like that,” Cumberbatch said on the possibility of the two characters hooking up on screen.
“Doctor Strange” directed by Scott Derrickson, opens in cinemas beginning October 26 this year.
