Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter get amorous at the pumps during honeymoon road-trip
THE newlyweds were in California ahead of the 87th Academy Awards, after Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for the best actor Oscar.
The pair, who tied the knot on the Isle Of Wight on Valentine’s Day, were spotted driving together along the state’s iconic Pacific Coast Highway.
Sophie and Benedict couldn’t resist a cheeky smooch as they filled up their $77,000 F-Type convertible Jaguar, before stopping off at some of the best coastal viewpoints during their mini honeymoon.
The TV star, who missed out on one of the golden gongs thanks to fellow Brit Eddie Redmayne, wore a white flat cap, pale blue shirt and dark jeans for his outing.
Her relaxed look was in stark contrast to the stunning red gown she chose for the star-studded ceremony on Sunday night.
The asymmetric number featured a daring split at the side as well as metal embellishment, and was worn with a pair of gold heeled sandals.
Benedict was seen jokingly swigging from a silver hip flask mid-way through the Hollywood ceremony.
Despite missing out on the best actor award, the star’s film The Imitation Game has today led the way in the 2015 Jameson Empire Awards nominations.
It has secured six nominations, with nods for best thriller, best British film, best film, best director and best actress for Keira Knightley.

While Benedict Cumberbatch and new wife Sophie Hunter may have traveled to Hollywood last week for the 57th Annual Academy Awards, the two managed to squeeze in a honeymoon road trip during their time in SoCal!
The newlyweds, who are expecting their first child together, drove up the California coast to kick off their first days as husband and wife, cruising along the picturesque PCH highway in a silver convertible Jaguar.
The 38-year-old Oscar-nominee, who lost the award for Best Actor to fellow Brit and pal Eddie Redmayne at Sunday’s ceremony, and the 36-year-old brunette stunner were seen packing on the PDA as they regularly stopped to enjoy the ocean views, and according to an eyewitness, “they could not keep their hands off of one another.”
Cumberbatch and Hunter departed on their mini-vacation on Tuesday and returned to L.A. on Friday, just in time for the Oscars.
“Benedict looked completely in love, he only had eyes for Sophie,” the source reveals, noting that the two “kissed, hugged and held hands even when they were pumping gas.”
The insider adds that the lovebirds “mainly kept to themselves” and had little interaction with others, but were always “polite and friendly.”
The pair was dressed casually for their romantic road trip with Sophie sporting a floral maxi dress, silver ballet flats and, of course, her wedding ring. Meanwhile, the studly Sherlock star rocked a white tee, jeans and a backwards newsboy cap.
Hunter and the Imitation Game star tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in a “magical” and private ceremony at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in the town of Mottistone on the Isle of Wight in England.
About 100 of the couple’s closest family and friends, including Cumberbatch’s Sherlock and The Hobbit co-star Martin Freeman, were in attendance.
Benedict’s rep confirmed that the two are expecting barely three months after the actor announced his engagement with a notice placed in the London Times.
Two days after the twosome’s nuptials, the actor stopped on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he was served piña coladas and joked that the appearance was his “honeymoon.”
Thankfully, they decided to head to Big Sur for round two. Congrats to the happy couple!

Benedict Cumberbatch Sends Heartfelt Letter To Family Of Sherlock Superfan Who Passed Away
Benedict Cumberbatch, the star of BBC’s Sherlock, went out of his way to offer comfort to the grieving family of one of his biggest fans.
Eve Shepherd, a 14-year-old Sherlock “superfan,” died on February 1 from breathing complications, and a funeral was held on Monday. Cumberbatch was not able to attend, as he was busy filming Sherlock, but he did send the family a letter.
“I send my deepest sympathies to Eve’s family,” Cumberbatch wrote, according to THR. “To lose someone so young who fought for her health all her life must be beyond endurance. … I hope they can take solace from the fact that she was clearly much loved and her support of our show is hugely appreciated and shall be remembered.”
The letter was read aloud at the funeral, and Cumberbatch signed, “God rest her soul. With all my love and sympathies, Benedict xxx.” The funeral concluded with the processional leaving the church as the Sherlock opening theme played.
“She would be so happy about the letter from Benedict,” Eve’s father, Mark, said. “She was a huge fan.”
